Contact Lenses

With 30 years of experience, Dr. David McManis has experience fitting all types of lenses.

Dr. McManis"If your contact lenses have been less comfortable than ideal, you have options! Different brands, materials, sizes, solutions and wearing schedules may give you the comfort that you desire."

Gas permeable lenses are not as popular as years ago. However, they are still a good option for those already wearing them, for more complex prescriptions and for those who want the sharpest vision possible.

What does it cost to wear contact lenses?

The best soft lenses are in the range of $100 to $200 per year, if wearing on a full time basis. Lenses that are worn over night, or replaced daily cost more, but the saving on solutions can balance this. There are less expensive lenses available, but are old materials that don't deliver as much oxygen through the lenses, thus aren't as comfortable or as healthy.

Replacement of Lenses

Many contact lens wearers over wear their lenses by not replacing them often enough. As contacts are worn, the amount of oxygen transmitted through the lens diminishes. Wearing contact lenses until they are less comfortable usually means that they are being over worn. Contact lenses should be replaced routinely so that they don't become less comfortable. The majority of contact lens related eye infections are due to not properly replacing contact lenses.
